Belinda Luscombe, Ava DuVernay, Jane Rosenthal and Whoopi Goldberg speak at the special event.
ESPN Films and espnW held a special screening on Monday, June 24 to showcase two films in their upcoming nine-part documentary series celebrating the 40th anniversary of Title IX, "Nine For IX." Shown at the Paley Center for Media in New York City, "Venus Vs." focuses on tennis star Venus Williams' fight for pay equality between male and female athletes in her sport. Screened before the features was Tribeca Film Festival honoree "Coach," which took home Best Documentary Short at the New York festival earlier this year. Bess Kargman's 17-minute documentary focuses on C. Vivian Stringer, a college basketball coach, formerly of the University of Iowa, who took four different schools to the NCAA Final Four and was elected to the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009.
In attendance were Whoopi Goldberg, who executive produced "Coach," "Venus Vs." director Ava DuVernay, series producer Jane Rosenthal, C, Vivian Stringer, and Katie Holmes, among others.
