There's an embarrassment of riches at this year's SXSW, especially if, like us, you geek out on anything having to do with interactive filmmaking and immersive storytelling. Given the festival's deep roots in both the film and tech communities, it only makes sense that SXSW would excel when it comes to events that bring film and tech together. The events highlighted below aren't quite tech and they aren't quite film -- they offer an exciting look at the changing narrative forms emerging courtesy of new technologies. 

Here are 10 you won't want to miss (in chronological order, with edited descriptions courtesy of SXSW):

1. New Narratives: Building an Interactive Storyworld

Who: Aina Abiodun, Founder, Storycode; Karim Ahmad, Sr. Digital Content Strategist, ITVS, Mike Knowlton, partner, Murmur, Ted Hope, CEO of Fandor

What: ITVS, Murmur, Storycode & Ted Hope will discuss the emerging genre of interactive narrative film, next-gen web series, and how creating immersive storyworlds can build audiences for feature films.

2. Digital Domain Presents: Wedlock

Who: Mark Duplass, Rob Corddry, Jennifer Lafleur and director Ross Partridge 

What: Duplass, Corddry, Lafleur and Partridge will premiere and discuss their new web series, Wedlock. While Corddry is known for bringing Children’s Hospital from web to TV, this independent project marks Duplass’ first foray into digital.

3. IDFA Doc Lab Presents the Emotional Arcade (and Other Interactive Stories That Move Us)

Who: IDFA DocLab founder and curator Caspar Sonnen and Brent Hoff, media artist and director of programming at IFP's Made in NY

What:  Sonnen and Hoff will explore the holy grail of interactive storytelling and media art: how to create projects that go beyond technological innovation and beautiful design in order to provide truly emotional and meaningful experiences.

4. Power to the People: Shaping the Future of Digital Storytelling

Who: Yoni Bloch, founder and CEO, of Interlude

What: Bloch will share what's next for film and music in the world of interactive videos. 

Attendees will discover how technology can empower consumers by providing greater personalization and choice, and what powerful insights can be gained from understanding how users engage with the medium.

5. Last Hijack Interactive

Who: Tommy Pallotta, Submarine Channel

What: Last Hijack Interactive is an online transmedia experience that allows you to explore the hijacking of a ship in Somalia. Together with an elegant use of data visualization, Last Hijack Interactive provides a unique, informative and eye-opening glimpse into the murky world of hijackings in Somalia.
