Beginning August 24, the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz will unspool the film series “Presented in Amazing AlamoScope: 70mm at the Ritz!” comprised of the films “West Side Story,” “Ghostbusters,” “Cleopatra,” “Baraka,” “Playtime,” “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” and Anderson’s highly anticipated period drama, which will first show at the Venice Film Festival in early Sept. The Alamo will present each film in the epic 70mm format.
"I am thrilled that Tim has helped us present the film in its intended way,” said Anderson, who first screened “There Will Be Blood” at Fantastic Fest in 2007. “This is a special format, and keeping it alive is important.”
All of the Alamo screenings of “The Master” will be in 70mm, beginning September 21, when the film expands nationally. While tickets for “West Side Story” only are now on sale, audiences can grab a pass to all seven films, as well.
“Paul Thomas Anderson has bucked the trend of digital conversion and shot his new American epic ‘The Master’ in glorious 70mm,” said Alamo Drafthouse founder and CEO Tim League. “As an homage to his bold ambition, we have made a long-term commitment to celebrate 70mm, both as a lead-up to the release of his new film and as an integral part of our programming for years to come.”
