  Although I love shows like homeland and shameless etc... There are other shows like them! Dexter is the only one of it's kind (that I know of) I don't know if any other serial killing blood spatter express, please don't take it away from us. Every show has it's seasons that aren't as good as the others, that will always be, that's no reason to discontinue it! We still want to watch it! Please! Lol xx

  "Stuck in stasis" and "running on fumes" — really, Alison?? Were you watching the same show I was this season? You know this is the live-action show Dexter, not the cartoon one about the kid with the same name, right? I realize it's a little confusing, because they both have annoying kid sisters, and both mess around in a lab.
  
  Dexter is as good as it's ever been, although most hardcore fans knew it could only end one way, and that the stories which they'd be able to do when being forced to wrap up the show for good might just blow every previous season out of the water. So this news, while bittersweet, is also something I'll be looking forward to.

  At least try to hide you your bias when reporting.... I happened to like this past season quite alot. In fact I loved this season AND season 6.....The ratings were high because Dexter is still great. The only season that really underwhelmed me was 5

  Season 7 was a much better season than 6. Yvonne Strahovski was an excellent addition. I'll have to see how Season 8 opens before I decide as to whether or not it's jumped the shark or not. At the very least, I think they are in early stages of considering a jump attempt. I'm looking forward to this being the last season and hope it goes out on top.

  Why, like the writer of this article, is everyone so obsessed with things having to end? If Dexter is having a ratings high 7 years in. Clearly, it isn't running on fumes and could enjoy many more seasons with twists and turns.
  
  One of the reasons AMC kicked out the last two show runners of The Walking Dead is because they wanted to end game it. Let the show go as long as it can creatively.
  
  Not everything has to have a death date on it.

  They were not kicked out - they left on their own primarily because AMC did not give them enough airtime to flesh out what they wanted. As for this article, Dexter will keep going until it stops making money or the writers find a good finale, such as Deb being killed and Dex gets revenge throughout the course of a season.

  7th season was a clear improvement after a disappointing season 6 (nice try to deal with religion, but it's a dumb move to do it lightly and follow the trends), mostly because of Yvonne Strahovski and Ray Stevenson's characters and performances.
  It's true that the big secret didn't change "much" but it was nice to see that Debra basically had a season "for herself", not as a sister or a girlfriend. And actually Carpenter delivered quite a great performance too dealing with Debra's issues (previous seasons were mostly about her pottymouth and crying).
  
  So the show could go on with interesting new characters and villains (see season five as a blueprint) but on the other hand I would agree it may be a good idea to "plan" a way out before running around in circle.

  Her opinion is spot on..,,the show hasn't been great since season 4.....season 5 and 6 were garbage.....season 7 was decent..,especially given how bad the two before it were

  ALISON WILLMORE should keep the personal opinions to herself. Just stick to the facts. Many fans like myself happen to think Dexter has been taking excellent risks and raising the stakes better than anything currently on TV. It actually lives up to the challenge of the premise and has not yet jumped the proverbial shark.
