THINKFilm Gets New Ozon Film, Sets Spring Release
by Eugene Hernandez
THINKFilm has acquired U.S. rights to Francois Ozon's latest, "5 x 2," the film will be released theatrically during the spring of 2005, announced THINKFilm head of U.S. theatrical distribution Mark Urman. The film, described by the company as "a haunting and realistic evocation of the evanescence of love, and of how adult relationships evolve over time," stars Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi and Stephane Freiss.
Ozon's new film, told in reverse chronology, explores five chapters in a couple's lives, including their first attraction, wedding night, and the birth of their child.
"To say that '5 X 2' is wildly different from 'Swimming Pool' is to state the obvious about this extraordinary filmmaker who seems to re-invent himself with every film," said Mark Urman in a statement. "What 5 X 2 has in spades is Ozon's patented blend of emotion, eroticism, wit and wisdom -- in short, all the qualities that have made him one of the brightest lights in contemporary world cinema."
Hengameh Panahi and Charlotte Mickie from Celluloid Dreams negotiated the deal, on behalf of producers Olivier Delbose and Mark Missonnier, with THINKFilm's Urman, Sr. VP of acquisitions Randy Manis and VP of acquisitions Daniel Katz.
Upcoming THINKFilm releases include the acclaimed doc "Born Into Brothels" this month and "The Assassination of Richard Nixon" with Sean Penn and Naomi Watts, late next month.
