THINKFilm Gets Wexler Doc, "Tell Them Who You Are"
by Eugene Hernandez
THINKFilm has acquired Mark S. Wexler's "Tell Them Who You Are," a doc portrait of cinematographer Haskell Wexler by his son Mark Wexler, for theatrical and home video distribution. The gripping, poignant new film offers a blunt but loving look at the life of Wexler, including interviews and anecdotes from George Lucas, Jane Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Ron Howard, Paul Newman, Julia Roberts and others. The film debuted at the Venice Film Festival and had its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
"Haskell Wexler's remarkable life is full of extraordinary people and images, and all of them are in this film," said THINKFilm's Mark Urman in a statement. "But, where 'Tell Them Who You Are' really excels is in its more universal story of legacy -- what we get from our fathers and what we give to our sons. It's an overwhelming emotional experience."
Urman and THINKFilm SVP Randy Manis negotiated the deal with John Sloss and Micah Green of Cinetic Media, representing the filmmaker.
The film is the latest doc acquired by THINK, following deals for the upcoming "Going Upriver: The Long War of John Kerry," "The Story of the Weeping Camel," and "Festival Express." THINKFilm will release "Tell Them Who You Are" in March and that film has already qualified for Academy Award consideration via a weeklong run in Los Angeles.
