Alamo Drafthouse founder Tim League will deliver the keynote address at the 5th annual Art House Convergence in Midway, Utah, taking place January 16 - 19, 2012. Held ahead of the Sundance Film Festival, which opens January 19 in nearby Park City, UT, The Arthouse Convergence is a yearly meeting of independent art house movie theater owners and operators in the U.S. and Canada.

In September, League told indieWIRE that he'd like to expand his Drafthouse franchise to New York and Los Angeles.

Full Art House Convergence release follows:

The 5th annual Art House Convergence, the only yearly meeting of independent art house movie theater owners and operators in the US and Canada will be held January 16-19, 2012 in Midway, Utah. During the 4-day event, delegates will come together to learn about and discuss a wide range of topics unique to independent, community-based, mission-driven cinemas. Tim League, Alamo Drafthouse Chief Executive and Founder, will deliver the keynote address. Founded in Austin 1997, the Alamo is one of the most successful Art House organizations in the Country.

"The Convergence is such a great experience because you realize that you have a peer group," said Andy Smith, Nickelodeon Theatre in Columbia, South Carolina. "Whether it's sharing ideas for new programs or marketing strategies, or commiserating on the shared difficulties of our industry, it's so great to know you're not alone. We came home with pages of notes filled with ideas."

The Art House Convergence is an educational program organized by the Art House Project theaters of the Sundance Institute. At this important annual conference, delegates enjoy inspirational speakers, informative sessions and panel discussions that provide productive tips about programming, marketing, fundraising, technology and industry trends to help improve the quality and effectiveness of community-based art house cinemas. Since it originated in 2008, the Art House Convergence has doubled in size each year and has evolved into a leading national resource for the support of independent film and the promotion of film culture in local communities. In 2011, over 200 people gathered from 36 states, Washington, D.C. and Toronto.

Over 20 sessions and panel discussions will cover a wide range of topics including increasing and engaging audiences through film education, new media marketing, digital cinema, fundraising, programming, and financial management. Highlights include:

DCP: The Digital Cinema Session -- Installation, Financing and Artistic Impact

Social Media Panel with Ira Deutchman (Managing Partner, Emerging Pictures and Film Program Chair, Columbia University) and Ted Hope (Independent Film Producer, Adjunct Professor, NYU Film Program

"Over the decades the Art House community has had a hard time finding its voice, a hard time believing it is, in fact, a community; and a hard time feeling like a citizen in the wider cinema world. But a sustainable business model clearly exists for Art Houses," says Russ Collins Executive Director of the Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor and Chair of the Art House Convergence. "I firmly believe as we gather for this Art House Convergence we are finding a collective voice, we are starting to believe in our potential and we are growing the number of communities throughout North America that are demanding community-based, mission-driven Art House cinemas in their towns."
