NBC has just announced that funny ladies Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, would host the 2013 Golden Globes. The two women currently rule the roost at their respective sitcoms, "30 Rock" and "Parks and Recreation," and have been two of the most revered comics in the past decade.
When the Golden Globes decided to break from tradition and assign hosting duties to someone in 2010, they did not make a safe choice in Ricky Gervais. For two years, Gervais had the censors on the edge and members of the audience laughing at his roasting of other guests in the room. He was known for traipsing onto the stage with beer in hand. Last year, he fell flat. The powers that be, it seemed, could only take two years of his antics and so he tempered down.
This has been an interesting year for Fey and Poehler. "30 Rock" will end at the end of this, its seventh, season; Fey's memoir "Bossypants" was a huge bestseller. Poehler's "Parks and Recreation" character Leslie Knope was elected to the Pawnee City Council at the end of last season; Poehler just announced she and husband Will Arnett would be breaking up.
The two women certainly have the talent to take on the often messy, often chummy Hollywood lovefest. We'll see how they do when the 2013 Golden Globes take place on Sunday, January 13.
