In March, IFC announced it had greenlit "The Spoils of Babylon," a scripted miniseries from Funny or Die executive produced by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and "Casa de mi Padre" team Matt Piedmont and Andrew Steele that's a spoof of sweeping, multigenerational "Thorn Birds"-style sagas.
Now Deadline reports that Ferrell and McKay have brought in some famous friends to star in the six-episode series. Tobey Maguire and Kristen Wiig are apparently set to take on the roles of Devon Morehouse, an orphaned child taken in by future oil magnate Jonas Morehouse, and his daughter, Cynthia. The two have a tortured, thwarted romance as they grow up to run Morehouse Enterprises.
Piedmont will direct "The Spoils of Babylon," and also co-wrote the script with Steele. Ferrell will appear as Eric Jonrosh, the fictional famous author of the best-selling epic novel on which "The Spoils of Babylon."
Lest we forget that Maguire, who'll soon be seen in "The Great Gatsby," can be funny, here's a look at him alongside Robert Downey Jr. in the fake trailer for "Satan's Alley" from "Tropic Thunder."
