Top 10 Indies in the iTunes Store This Week: 'Walk of Shame,' 'Her' and 'Blue Ruin' Hit the List

Each Monday we present you with the most up-to-date list of the top 10 indie movies in the iTunes store, combining rentals and purchases. Though Oscar-winners "12 Years a Slave" and "Dallas Buyers Club" continue to remain strong, smaller indies such as "Blue Ruin" and "Filth" join the list this week. Meanwhile, "Fruitvale Station" returns to the list this week as "Movie of the Week" for only 99 cents rental.

The top 10 indies in iTunes are listed below (number represents North American gross, where applicable):

1. Walk of Shame (Focus Features, $38,000)

2. Fruitvale Station (Weinstein Company, $16,101,339)

3. August: Osage County (Weinstein Company, $37,737,349)

4. Philomena (Weinstein Company, $37,681,352)

5. Dallas Buyers Club (Focus Features, $27,298,285)

6. 12 Years a Slave (Fox Searchlight, $56,659,533)

7. Blue Ruin (Radius-TWC, $121,200)

8. Her (Warner Bros., $25,568,251)

9. Joe (Roadside Attractions, $344,500)

10. Enemy (A24, $1,002,800)

    Is there a source that can tell you how much a film has grossed on iTunes? The above numbers are only "box-office" I believe.

    Thanks for the share. These numbers should open the eyes of so many would-be-indie filmmakers. It'll be interesting if one day, an indie filmmaker who pays for an aggregator directly can ever attain these types of numbers without the help of any distribution representation. Could happen ... but still, it looks like responsible indie producers need to prep their would-be-investors that a film sold via iVOD, EST, SVOD, may only garner a few thousand to a hundred thousand in returns. Gotta bring those budgets down even further.
