Trailer of the Week: Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Directorial Debut 'Don Jon' Has Our Hero in Jersey Cruisin' For Honeys

Before the Trailer, We Thought: Joseph Gordon-Levitt the actor can do no wrong—well, maybe he's imperfect —so count us among the excited masses for his feature debut as a writer and director. The Sundance and SXSW selection has been gaining good buzz at festivals, but this is the first chance we've all had to get a glimpse at JGL in full muscle head-mode.

And Now? Sign us up for a gym membership. From Marky Mark taking over Don's car stereo to some father-son time with Tony Danza, "Don Jon" looks like a jolt of good times -- even if the trailer gives away two surprise cameos we would preferred remain secret.

For more indie film trailers check out Indiewire's trailer page, sponsored by Sony Pictures Classics.

The film's pornographic content and title have been given a cut since its premiere at Sundance -- the former to earn an R-rating and the latter as an aesthetic choice -- but that's no reason to expect anything less from the fast-paced & funny film. Gordon-Levitt plays the titular Don Juan-type; a cocky bartender from Jersey whose only priorities in life are his body, his pad, his ride, his family, his church, his boys, his girls...and porn. That is until Scarlett Johansson shows up at his club, knocks him off his feet, and makes him choose between the real thing and the fantasy.

"Don Jon" is scheduled for an October 18 release from Relativity Media.

JGL's primary goal in cinema these days seems to be out to prove to the world how macho he can be. Whatevs.

What? After viewing half the trailer, I was completely convinced the plot was that Scarlett was a porn star, since they looked her up and said "That's her! That's definitely her!", then all of a sudden she's hating on porn. Terrible editing or am I just dumb?
