The Tribeca Film Festival looms nearer, and organizers announced that New York features and documentaries will be a highlight of this year's second-annual fest. Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal along with new festival director Peter Scarlet announced five new categories to be featured during the event, which begins May 3 in lower Manhattan. The five sections include "NY, NY"; "AMC Presents Martin Scorsese's and the Film Foundation's Restored and Rediscovered Classics"; "Special Screenings"; and "Midnight."

"NY, NY" features 23 films and documentaries shot in New York City, including 14 world premieres. Jim Hershleder's "Ash Tuesday" starring Janeane Garofalo, Tony Spiridakis, Tony Goldwyn, and Giancarlo Esposito as well as "Ghostlight" by Christopher Herrmann with Ann Magnuson, Deborah Harry, Mark Morris, Isaac Mizrahi, and Richard Move will make their world premieres, screening in the "NY, NY" category. Also set to screen in "NY, NY" is Joe Maggio's Sundance 2003 film "Milk and Honey," making its New York premiere and Angela Christlieb and Stephen Kijak's Hamptons 2002 winning-doc, "Cinemania."

In the "Special Screenings" category, Toronto 2002 audience award-winner "Whale Rider" will have its New York premiere as well as Oliver Stone's Fidel Castro documentary, "Comandante." "Trainspotting" director Danny Boyle's latest, the zombie thriller "28 Days Later," will screen in the Midnight section (also a NY premiere) as well as Michael Gramaglia and Jim Fields' "Century: the Story of the Ramones." The Tribeca Film Festival concludes May 11 and will feature more than 200 features, docs, and shorts.
