To celebrate the 40th anniversary of New Directors/New Films series, the Film Society of Lincoln Center and The Museum of Modern Art have curated a series of video interviews with talent who came to the festival as relative unknowns and went on to become renowned auteurs. indieWIRE will unveil a video a week up to the kickoff on March 23.

This week finds New York-based, award-winning filmmaker Su Friedrich reflecting on her second film to screen at ND/NF, the 31-minute short documentary "Rules of the Road." The 1993 film chronicles a couple's love affair and its eventual demise. When their relationship ends, one of their primary joint possessions, an all-American Oldsmobile rusty station wagon, becomes the property of one and a nightmare for the other.
