As part of the 13th Annual Tribeca Film Festival (TFF), aspiring super short filmmakers from around the world can submit their Vine creations to the newly opened 2014 #6secfilms Competition. The competition is accepting submissions globally through March 27th. Simply tag your submissions with #6secfilms and the relevant category: #drama #comedy #animated and #genre. Up to 20 finalists will be selected from each category and from that pool of semi-finalists, four individual winners will be picked from each category. The winning works will receive a 30-minute meeting with Grape Story, the mobile-first marketing agency and production house founded by Gary and AJ Vaynerchuk of VaynerMedia, a social-first digital shop, and Jerome Jarre, an ntrepreneur with more than 4.6 million Vine followers.
New to this year's competition is the chance for online audiences to watch the entries here and vote for their favorites. One lucky crowd favorite will receive the #6secfilms Audience Award. There is a ticking clock though. Online Audience members have until April 12th to cast their vote.
The #6SecFilms contest itself debuted last year and was a great success. It marks the advent of an exciting new exercise in filmmaking skill and brevity. As Genna Terranova, TFF's Director of programming, said, "Making a successful 6-second film is really a true test of creativity and skill. The tools may be simple, but the time is short and the task to do it well is large... Encouraging innovation in storytelling is a cornerstone of Tribeca. Last year was proof that new talent is as evident in six seconds as it is in 6,000. We look forward to seeing what this year will bring as we open it up to international submissions for the first time."
