"Waitress" Acquired by Fox Searchlight Pictures

Today at the Sundance Film Festival, Fox Searchlight Pictures announced the acquisition of worldwide rights to "Waitress", a comedy written and directed by the late Adrienne Shelly. The film stars Keri Russell with supporting roles from Jeremy Sisto, Cheryl Hines, Nathan Fillion and Andy Griffith and is produced by Michael Roiff. "Waitress" is a story about one woman's secret dream (Russell) to earn enough money through waitressing so that she can leave her controlling husband (Sisto). "Shelly's film represents a view of the world that is at once surprising, optimistic and infused with humor," said Fox Searchlight Pictures President Peter Rice in a prepared statement. "We are thrilled to be sharing her poignant vision with audiences everywhere." The film is scheduled for release in 2007. [Porter Teegarden]
