Watch: Ben Affleck Gets Defensive in New 'Gone Girl' Trailer

Based on Gillian Flynn's bestselling novel of the same name, "Gone Girl" will open the 52nd New York Film Festival.

From the look of it, David Fincher's "Gone Girl" certainly has the same eerie sensibility of his previous films "Zodiac" and "The Social Network," complete with a ghostly score provided by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

For those unfamiliar with the bestselling novel, the story revolves around the disappearance of Amy Dunne. On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Affleck) reports that his wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the local police and the developing media frenzy, Nick's portrait of a perfect marriage begins to crumble. Soon his lies and mysterious behavior have everyone asking the same question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?
