Gearing up for the documentary's release later this summer courtesy of Drafthouse Films, an official US trailer for "The Act of Killing" was released online today. Joshua Oppenheimer's acclaimed, troubling film has former Indonesian death squad leaders recounting the atrocities that they committed. Forgoing the usual format of talking-head testimony, they instead reenact the memories of what they did and experienced through various film genres of their choosing, from gangster to Hollywood musical.

The strange and disturbing nature of this conceit is on full display in the film's trailer. The film will be officially hitting US theaters on July 19th.
