If relentless action is your thing, then you'll no doubt surrender to "Sleepless Night," Frédéric Jardin's French thriller playing at the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival after hitting VOD on April 17. The film centers on seemingly corrupt cop Vincent (Tomer Sisley) whose attempt to steal a bag of coke leads to the kidnapping of his teenage son. This all occurs within the first few minutes; the rest of the film is one long extended action sequence that takes place in a single crazy night. Reviewing the film at Fantastic Fest last year, Indiewire's Eric Kohn said it was a "brilliant, frenetic action vehicle" with a "near-perfect realization of action dynamics," while noting that the planned studio remake probably won't live up to quality of the original.
Below, Jardin shares an exclusive scene from his film, ahead of its VOD launch and theatrical release on May 11.
In this clip we get to see why Vincent is fighting so hard; Marciano (Serge Riaboukine) has taken the one thing that matters most. Vincent's son is taken hostage as leverage for the drugs’ safe return. The desperate father heads to the kingpin’s night club to make the swap, leaving the majority of the goods hidden in the club’s bathroom until he can confirm his son is safe. But with an increasingly suspicious buyer breathing down his neck and no product to give him, Marciano has precious little patience for Vincent’s posturing.
