"He was the Joe Dimaggio of table tennis." Marty Reisman was an American and international champion; the sort who appeared on late night talk shows and was covered in Sports Illustrated at a time when a cultural icon could come from anywhere. Now, he is the subject of his very own documentary, "Fact or Fiction: The Life and Times of a Ping Pong Hustler."
In this first trailer for the film, people reflect and remember what made the ping pong king who he was, both as a champion of the table and as a lonely man later in life. The film documents this time, the final years of Reisman's life, shot over four years in his native New York. Also featured in the documentary are executive producers Franck Raharinosy and Jonathan Bricklin, as well as Susan Sarandon. The three are all co-founders of Spin Ping-Pong Clubs.
Directed by first-timer Leo Leigh - son of renowned narrative director Mike Leigh - "Fact or Fiction: The Life and Times of a Ping Pong Hustler" has been slated for an August 1 release by Gravitas Ventures.
