The folks at FX have been tantalizingly cryptic about "American Horror Story: Coven," the third installment in the anthology horror series created by Ryan Murphy.
After a handful of abstract promos involving levitating girls and sexualized snake imagery, we have finally gotten what looks to be some official footage from the upcoming season, which follows a teenage girl (Taissa Farmiga, returning from season one) who, after discovering she is a witch in what seems to be a disturbingly grisly way, is sent to some sort of boarding school for young witches run by Jessica Lange, whose tough-as-nails proctoring methods apparently include telekinetically throwing young girls against walls.
Plenty of the cast members new to the show such as Kathy Bates, Gabourey Sidibe and Emma Roberts are given momentary emphasis, with the last shot of the promo belonging to Angela Bassett, joining the cast as a voodoo queen, as she laughs viciously.
"American Horror Story: Coven" premieres on FX on October 9.
