The stop-motion animation studio LAIKA has released the official trailer for "Kubo and the Two Strings." After finding much critical and commercial success with "Coraline," "ParaNorman" and "The Boxtrolls," the studio is turning to Japanese mythology to expand their eclectic filmography.
"Kubo and the Two Strings" follows the titular hero, who lives a humble life telling stories to the people of his seaside town. His quiet existence is soon shattered when he accidentally summons a spirit from his past, bent on enacting an age-old vendetta. Now on the run, Kubo joins forces with Monkey and Beetle on a quest to save his family and solve the mystery of his fallen father, the greatest samurai the world has ever seen.
The movie boasts a star-studded voice cast, including Ralph Fiennes, Rooney Mara, Matthew McCounaghey, Charlize Theron, George Takei, Brenda Vaccaro and Art Parkinson.
"Kubo and the Two Strings" will be released August 19.
