The Weinstein Company has released a new trailer in anticipation of director Justin Chadwick's upcoming Nelson Mandela biopic "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom," based on Mandela's autobiography of the same name.
The trailer features an original U2 song that rises and subsides through the latter part of the trailer with all the epic undertones synonymous with a dramatic Hollywood biopic. While a Mandela character portrait may not be uncharted territory given Clint Eastwood's 2009 "Invictus" which starred Morgan Freeman as Mandela, the latest trailer gives us a taste of the anti-apartheid revolutionary's life from advocator of armed struggle to symbol of peace and non-violence in a way that feels fresh and original. U2's initially slow then abruptly explosive soundtrack song pretty accurately epitomizes what Mandela's conflict-heavy life might look like through dramatic Hollywood eyes.
"Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom" arrives in theaters November 29.
