The thought of Lindsay Lohan and porn star James Deen coming together to star in a trashy modern-day noir scripted by literary bad boy Bret Easton Ellis and directed by Paul Schrader in “Auto Focus”-“American Gigolo” mode struck many film fans as a deliciously sloppy recipe for that real real good kind of bad. Well, if the first teaser for “The Canyons” is any indication, the filmmakers have got the very same idea.

Shot over the summer and put together in full grindhouse style, the footage in the trailer is old-school trenchcoat poetry. You can check it out below — but be smart and put on protection first.

Meanwhile, Ellis has reacted predictably to today’s news that Focus Features has hired “Terra Nova” co-creator Kelly Marcel to write the adaptation of E.L. James’ “Fifty Shades of Grey,” a gig Ellis has campaigned heavily for on Twitter and elsewhere. A Monday-night Tweet from Ellis reads:

Kelly Marcel?!? KELLY MARCEL?!? Kelly Marcel is WRITING the script for “Fifty Shades of Grey”?!? THIS is the movie they want to make? ARGH.

Despite things not going his way, Ellis looks to have enough sticky material in “The Canyons” for two movies.
