Matthew McConaughey has remained relatively low key in the two years since winning the Oscar for Best Actor, only showing up in Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" and a few infamous car advertisements for Lincoln.
Fortunately, the actor is set to return to the big screen this summer in "Free State of Jones," the new Civil War-set action-drama from director Gary Ross ("Seabiscuit," "The Hunger Games").
The official synopsis reads: "'Free State of Jones' tells the story of defiant Southern farmer Newt Knight, and his extraordinary armed rebellion against the Confederacy. Banding together with other small farmers and local slaves, Knight launched an uprising that led Jones County, Mississippi to secede from the Confederacy, creating a Free State of Jones. Knight continued his struggle into Reconstruction, distinguishing him as a compelling, if controversial, figure of defiance long beyond the War."
STX Entertainment will release "Free State of Jones" on May 13. Watch the debut trailer above.
