Oprah Winfrey in the "Lee Daniels' The Butler."
Although the film is called "Lee Daniels' The Butler," a good amount of attention and coverage has gone to neither to director Lee Daniels or Forest Whitaker, who assumes the title role. Instead, Oprah Winfrey has been getting plenty of press for her involvement, as the media mogul is tackling her first substantial role in over a decade in the film. With more and more footage coming out as the film's release date draws closer, it's not difficult to see why people are so excited about seeing Winfrey's charismatic nature on screen.
In a new clip, which was published
on Hulu, the lighter and less politically-charged aspects of the film are emphasized. It sees Cecil Gaines (Forest Whitaker) coming home to find his wife Gloria (Winfrey) sporting an afro and a flashy jumpsuit while getting her groove on to some disco. In case you did not get the memo, the 70's are now in full swing. Upon greeting her husband, she greets him with a birthday cake as well as a very amusing gift.
"Lee Daniels' The Butler" his theaters on August 16. Stay tuned for Indiewire's upcoming interview with Winfrey.
