Parker Posey, ever the quirky misfit, looks to revisit familiar territory in the trailer for IFC's emotional new comedy "Price Check." Posey, who recently played a badly unhinged bookstore clerk on a string of "Louie" episodes, appears here as Susan Felders, a manic but somehow charming supermarket executive who bursts into the life of middle manager Pete Cozy (Eric Mabius) with decidedly mixed results.
Just over two minutes long, the trailer nicely sketches the film's arc, taking us from Posey's energetic entrance into Pete's workplace as the alluring new boss, to the escalation of their relationship beyond the merely professional. Things begin to unravel from there, as Pete's home life suffers and the stresses of career and romance bring out Susan's latent emotional imbalances.
Like other indie comedies of recent years -- "Greenberg," "Win Win" -- "Price Check" seems to portray a kind of middle-class American life that is frequently difficult, lonely, and, often enough, very funny.
"Price Check" is due out November 16.
