As anyone who caught it at Cannes earlier this year could tell you, John Hillcoat's follow-up to "The Road," "Lawless," is brutally violent, fully meriting its R rating. The Weinstein Company just released a new red-band trailer for the film, which opens August 29, that gives a better sense than the standard trailer of just what viewers are in for, should they seek it out.

Based on Matt Bondurant's 2008 novel "The Wettest County in the World," which detailed the real-life exploits of the bootlegging Bondurant brothers in Prohibition-era Virginia, "Lawless" boasts a starry cast that includes Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Gary Oldman and Guy Pearce.
