Wes Anderson's frequent behind-the-scenes collaborator, Roman Coppola, returns to directing for the first time in nine years with "A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III." In its wry depictions of louche 70s-era carousing, cowboy-themed hallucinations and questionably designed men's tennis garb, the film makes a natural vehicle for Team Anderson all-stars Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman. Charlie Sheen, whose biography seems to have been at least a partial inspiration for the titular hero, also feels like an organic choice for this tale of a graphic designer derailed in his romantic life by the playboy predilections of his past.
Aubrey Plaza ("Funny People," "Parks and Recreation") rounds out the cast alongside Katheryn Winnick ("Love and Other Drugs"), who plays the object of Swan's desperate affection, and Patricia Arquette as his sister Izzy, who joins Saul (Murray) and Kirby Star (Schwartzman) in salving the protagonist's heartbreak with a drug-fueled adventure.
"A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III" opens in theaters February 8. Check out the trailer below for a taste of the flim's zany pleasures.
