A trailer has been released for Atom Egoyan's "The Captive."

Ryan Reynolds, sporting a rather bushy beard, stars as a father whose daughter gets abducted from the car when he briefly leaves her alone in the car while running into a store. As the investigation into his daughter's disappearance ramps up, his relationship with his wife, played by Mireille Enos, begins to unravel as she becomes suspicious and blames him. Fast-forward eight years -- Reynolds and Enos' daughter still hasn't been found. Suddenly, however, certain clues emerge suggesting that she still might be alive.

Despite the juxtaposition of intrigue against the barren, snow-laden Canadian landscape, critics at Cannes did not respond kindly to Egoyan's latest project. You can decide for yourself by watching the full trailer below. "The Captive" hits U.S. theaters on September 5.
