Thankfully, another has come along to take its place, and from the look of the trailer, it relies more on nostalgia and the pure talent of a great artist than on a cutesie character.
"I am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story"profiles Caroll Spinney, the "Sesame Street" puppeteer who has brought the characters of Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch to life since the show's first season. The documentary relies heavily on Spinney's in-depth archive of home videos dating back to the 1950s and also features footage of him on set dressed as our favorite giant bird. In the film, Spinney discusses the worldwide cultural icon and answers why he can't say goodbye to the characters he cherishes. At 80-years-old, Spinney is one of the last remaining original puppeteers and scenes of him with Jim Henson and Frank Oz remind us just how long this staple show has been around.
There are some pretty crazy shots revealed in this trailer, including Spinney bungee jumping and the revelation that Big Bird used to be blue!"I am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story" will premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 14. Check out the trailer below.
