Watch: Teaser for 'Under the Dome,' CBS' Adaptation of the Stephen King Novel, Directed by Niels Arden Oplev

"Under the Dome," the limited series adaptation of Stephen King's 2009 science fiction novel of the same name, will air on CBS this summer, serving as an unusual venture into higher-end serialized programming for a network that's otherwise preferred to keep to (and found success in) classic episodic TV like sitcoms "The Big Bang Theory" and "Two and a Half Men" and procedurals "NCIS" and "CSI." Developed by Brian K. Vaughan ("Y: The Last Man," "Lost"), the 13-episode series (which, if successful, will be kept open to the possibility of a second round) is set in a small New England town that is suddenly and mysteriously cut off from the world by a giant transparent dome.

Neal Baer ("ER") is the showrunner, with Danish "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" director Niels Arden Oplev helming the first episode and Mike Vogel ("Bates Motel"), Rachelle Lefevre ("Twilight") and Dean Norris ("Breaking Bad") amongst the cast. CBS has released a first look video from the upcoming series, which premieres June 24, below, suggesting "Under the Dome" will be a genuine departure for CBS -- which makes sense, given that the project originated at the network's sister channel Showtime.

Under the Dome, is one of my favorite Stephen King books, so I couldn’t be more excited that it’s coming to TV! With my job at DISH requiring me to travel, I’m glad that I still have a way to watch it unfold. My DISH Anywhere app lets me stream recorded shows on my DVR to my tablet. There’s nothing better than spending my downtime at the airport catching up with new shows.

It's like "The Simpsons Movie", but without twisted yellow peeps.
