The films were produced by production company Canana, co-founded by Bernal, Luna, and Cruz, and Chivas Regal. The two films mark the first ones produced by Canana since their 2012 release "No," starring Bernal, that recently received an Oscar nomination for best foreign-language film.

Bernal will direct the currently-untitled concluding film, which is scheduled to be released on February 18.
