With its release just around the end of the month over Thanksgiving break, two clips from Spike Lee's remake of "Oldboy" have made their way online, providing a closer look at more characters and the enigmatic, entangled nature of the film's plot.
The scenes show Lee immediately severing ties with the South Korean location of the 2003 original, as Brolin's Joe Doucett has just been released from his twenty-year hotel room imprisonment and winding up at the front door of low-rent dive bar owned and named after Michael Imperioli's Chucky, a seemingly trustworthy friend of Joe's before he was put into exile. It's not long after his release until the mystery comes back up, as Joe gets a mysterious call from a man who seems to know about the nature of his ordeal as well as his daughter.
In the second clip, the man behind the phone pays a visit to Joe at the establishment and, needless to say, things get heated.
"Oldboy" is set to hit theaters on November 27.
