The West Memphis Three have inspired plenty of filmmakers in the documentary realm, with last year's "West of Memphis" and the three-part documentary "Paradise Lost" all painstakingly devoted to the facts surrounding the infamous 1993 case. Canadian director Atom Egoyan takes the first stab at presenting a dramatization of the events in "Devil's Knot," and a trailer for the film has been released following its Toronto unveiling and ahead of its release next year.
The two-minute preview provides equal doses of intrigue and chills, with a mother (Reese Witherspoon) in the Arkansas town growing concerned when her child doesn't show up after going off to ride his bike with friends. Their grisly remains are soon discovered, and three teenagers in the town are soon convicted, with talk of satanic rituals being administered during the murders. With everyone quick to pin the murders on the trio, defense investigator Ron Lax (Colin Firth) sees the more distressing possibility that they may not be responsible.
Dane DeHaan, Mireille Enos and Stephen Moyer co-star in the film, which Image Entertainment nabbed last month and is prepping a spring stateside release.
