Watch: Trailer for David Mackenzie's Violent Prison Drama 'Starred Up' is Suffocating in a Very Exciting Way

The trailer for David Mackenzie's "Starred Up" shows just how claustrophobic a prison can be yet simultaneously how much violence can take place inside.

Jack O'Connell might soon find himself on one of Indiewire's breakout star lists. The actor is slated to appear in Angelina Jolie's next directorial outing "Unbroken," but right now is offering up a tour-de-force performance in David Mackenzie's prison drama "Starred Up."

Indiewire's critic saw the film at Telluride and called it "a powerful chamber piece in which the prison -- where the action exclusively takes place -- turns into a character as well." That the film was shot entirely within the confines of a prison provides for a suffocating and claustrophobic ambiance that increases the already tense atmosphere.

"Starred Up" hits theaters August 29. Check out the trailer below:
