A new trailer for Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" surfaced yesterday, amid mounting anticipation for the film's Christmas Release. Set in pre-Civil War America, the film stars Christopher Waltz as German bounty-hunter, Dr. Schultz, and Jamie Foxx as a slave named Django. Schultz employs Django to help track down his bounty, the Brittle Brothers, and as a reward promises his freedom and to rescue his enslaved wife (Kerry Washington) from the plantation proprietor, Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio).
A teaser trailer was released by the Weinstein Company in June, but the new trailer reveals more plot details and features appearances from Samuel L. Jackson and Jonah Hill. In two-and-a-half minutes, the trailer showcases Tarantino's knack for assembling a great cast of actors, his trademark twisted and complex plot lines, and the tight scripts and sharp one-liners he's built his reputation on over the years. If the trailer is a reflection of the final product, then it harbingers "Django's" inclusion in the canon of classic Tarantino hits and Oscar bait.
