"The Feel Bad Movie of Christmas" has dropped its first full trailer and its a dark and twisted delight.
Back in May, the teaser for David Fincher's take on "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" sent fans of Fincher and the mega-selling book into a tizzy. Ingeniously edited around a haunting Trent Reznor-Karen O cover of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" and boasting the coolest tagline of the year, the first glimpse at the English-language adaptation got the job done: It got people talking.
The first full-length trailer that debuted today online will no doubt do the same. The reason? Rooney Mara. "The Social Network" star reportedly beat out a slew of A-list actresses including Cary Mulligan, Natalie Portman and Kristen Stewart to embody the troubled hacker Lisbeth Salander. With this extended clip we're beginning to see why.
Totally unrecognizable from her turn in "The Social Network," Mara certainly looks the part with piercings aplenty and one fierce hair cut. Judging by the trailer, she seems to have also accessed the driven, haunted and complex core of the beloved heroine. We can't wait to see the full performance when the film opens wide on December 21.
