"Poor Leonardo DiCaprio." Let's face it, that's a phrase we've all said to ourselves at least once.
The critically acclaimed actor has been nominated for six Oscars over his career -- five for acting and one for producing -- and mostly everyone on the planet seems to agree that the sought-after award is long overdue. As a person who has a strong sense of artistic fidelity when bringing larger-than-life characters to the big screen, DiCaprio has been snubbed by the Academy for more than 20 years.
From Gilbert Grape to Howard Hughes, the revered actor has been chasing after the elusive award for his entire career, which is exactly what the geniuses over at The Line Animation at Electric Theater Collective have hilariously based their side-scrolling platform web game on. If Leo can't win the Oscar, it's just up to you to help him out.
Entitled "Leo's Red Carpet Rampage," the game has the player jump, weave and careen his or her way down the red carpet as Leo, all in the hopes of capturing that ever-fleeting award. You'll want to jump to collect as many Golden Globes, SAG Awards and BAFTAs as you can, though you'll have to avoid a host of paparazzi photographers, icebergs and Lady Gaga if you want to really win. Peppered throughout the game are some truly hilarious bonus rounds, which range from making Leo act harder to racing the other nominated Best Actors and choosing the black acting nominee.
Overall, the web-based game provides a funny, well-designed commentary on not only the actor's outrageous lack of an Oscar, but also on the racial and economical politics of contemporary Hollywood and awards campaigning.
