Distribution company Women Make Movies has partnered up with the Sarasota Film Festival for the first-ever Side By Side Symposium, a mentoring program for female filmmakers, to coincide with the 12th annual 'Through Women's Eyes' program, taking place from April 8 - 17.
Geena Davis will serve as the keynote speaker at the panel, intended to bring women from various segments of the film industry together. Other slated guests include producer Sarah Greene, IFC Films' SVP of Acquisitions and Production, Arianna Bocco, Thelma Adams (US Weekly), Susan Wloszczyna (USA Today) and Regina Weinreich (filmmaker and contributor to The Huffington Post).
"We are thrilled to be working with the highly respected Sarasota Film Festival on such an essential and much-needed program," said WMM Executive Director Debra Zimmerman. "Women filmmakers continue to struggle with getting the recognition they deserve in the film industriy. The Side by Side Symposium is an opportunity to encourage advocacy and action between novice and more experienced women in film, as well as strengthening this commendable community."
