Zurich Film Festival Unveils Official 2013 Lineup

The Zurich Film Festival, scheduled to begin September 26 through October 6, unveiled its 11-day lineup today.

This year the film festival has endeavored to screen a total of 122 films from 27 countries, including 22 debut films and 16 world premieres. Unveiling the complete program and framework of the festival, ZFF festival co-director Nadja Schildknecht remarked, "we want to grow at a healthy and moderate pace," and that, "a higher budget made it possible to optimize our corporate structure as well as further develop the contents of the program me. In addition to that we were able to increase the cinematic programme as well as invite a larger number of guests and schedule more industry events." 

For the past 9 years the ZFF has not only placed in Zurich in the limelight as an evolving cinematic metropolis, but has more importantly sought to establish a network of established and emerging filmmakers by attracting films in the following categories: International Feature Film, International Documentary Film, German-Language Feature Film and Germany, Austria, Switzerland Documentary Film. The festival's Gala Premiere's section additionally plans to present such films as "The Immigrant" by James Gray with Marion Cotillard and Joaquin Phoenix, "The Railway Man" by Jonathan Teplitzky with Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman, "Devil's Knot" by Atom Egoyan with Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth and "Gravity" by Alfonso Cuaron with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, among other films. Outside of competing for awards, the ZFF is also set to conduct a master class with Harvey Weinstein. 

In addition to the sought-after Golden Eye award in the four categories, the festival will also extend to winning filmmakers a newly introduced 'small Golden Eye' for best children's film, the Schweizer Filmkritik's Critics Choice Award for Best First Feature Film and the Audience Award for Best Competition Film.
