    film review: TANGLED

I approach each new Disney film with a combination of eagerness and apprehension: will it be as good as I want it to be? Can “the new guys” carry the torch lit by Walt and his colleagues so many years ago? Where Tangled is concerned, I knew within minutes that the answer was yes. I could tell from t...

(I’ll admit, it takes some adjustment to accept her now-frozen face, but one either accepts Cher as it or not at all.) Then they hired Stanley Tucci to play her gay best friend and right-hand man, essentially reprising the role he essayed so well in The Devil Wears Prada. No matter—he brightens every scene he’s in, and delivers his lines with the panache of a true master. But these old pros have to swim up-tide against a screenplay that’s so hokey and weather-beaten you have to wond...

Doug Liman Talks Fair Game, CIA Spies, Valerie Plame, Bourne, Jumper, New York vs. Hollywood

Director Doug Liman fascinates me. He's hard to get a handle on. An indie filmmaker who broke through with Swingers and Go, after his smash hits The Bourne Identity and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Liman became a Hollywood director for hire (see: Warners' upcoming All You Need is Kill and Universal's Moon pr...

Mark Wahlberg Will Star In David O. Russell's Video Game Adaptation 'Uncharted'

Actor Confirms That Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci Are In Talks, Will Play His Father & Uncle If you'd told us at the beginning of the year that 2010 would see David O. Russell sign on to an adaptation of the Playstation videogame "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune," we'd have nodded politely, and then dismissed everything you had to say after that. But rumors emerged in the summer that Russell, fresh off his comeback film "The Fighter," was circling the project, and he finally signed on last month. Not long after, another crazy rumor surfaced -- that Russell had moved the globetrotting adventure, at least in part, to the world of New York antiques, ...

First Look: Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon & Christoph Waltz In 'Water For Elephants'

Yes, this is the film "Inglourious Basterds" breakout star and Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz chose to do over David Cronenberg's psychosexual drama about the story of friends-turned-rivals Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, "A Dangerous Method." We didn't understand it then; we still don't understand it no...
