Was The Sarah Palin Documentary Actually a Hit?

Sarah Palin documentary "The Undefeated" opened in 10 theaters this weekend and its performance was definitely the second most discussed topic among box office pundits yesterday (clearly, "Harry Potter" smashing every conceivable record was #1). indieWIRE's own box office column suggested the perfor...

Kevin Costner In Talks To Be Leonardo DiCaprio's Henchman In Quentin Tarantino's 'Django Unchained'

Quentin Tarantino may not have landed the biggest movie star on the planet, Will Smith, for his controversy-bomb slavery Western "Django Unchained," but that doesn't mean he's starving for A-listers: Jamie Foxx has taken over the title part, originally intended for Smith, while Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz is going to be Dr. King Schultz, Django's pal and mentor, Leonardo DiCaprio will take on the principle villain (and appears to be locked in now), slave-trader Calvin Candie, and Samuel L. Jackson will be Candie's principal house slave, Stephen. And now, another big name has signed on, making the film perhaps Tarantino's most traditionally s...

William Mapother is Creepy, But Not in "Another Earth."

When I saw "Another Earth" at Sundance earlier this year, I was caught off guard by the presence of William Mapother. A cousin of Tom Cruise, Mapother recently played the eerie "Other" Ethan on ABC's "Lost," showing up in the first season as a mysterious presence among the plane crash survivors and slowly taking on a more complex dimension over the course of the show (even long after his character was killed off). Although I wrote in my review that Mapother did powerful work in "Another Earth," which opens this week, it's mostly the material that deepens his performance. I don't really feel for the guy as a frustrated widower; he seems like a...
