Despite Hurricane Irene "Colombiana" Looks Headed For No. 2 B.O. Slot

It's pretty obvious that Hurricane Irene (which is battering the East Coast at the very moment, from North Carolina to Cape Cod) is going to have a huge effect on this weekend's box office numbers. Some are predicting that studios and distribtutors will lose as much as $30 million because of the sto...

Focus Features Planning To Push "Pariah" Into 2012 Oscar Race; What Are Its Chances?

I suspected as much, given how late in the year Focus Features plans to release the film, despite its Sundance Film Festival debut in January, 8 months ago. And it's obviously definitely a good look for the film (Pariah), its director (Dee Rees) and star (Adepero Oduye).

New Photo: Jennifer Garner Carves A Car Out Of 'Butter'; Long-Form Synopsis Released

One of the biggest question marks at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival slate is The Weinstein Company comedy, "Butter." It's a curious picture for several reasons. It's not entirely clear if it's a drama, dramedy or comedy, but the TIFF website firmly says comedy (with elements of "identity" and "politics"), so fine then, maybe it incorporates all those elements. The TIFF site isn't helping either, as one of the loglines say the principal cast is the family at the center of the picture that's played by Jennifer Garner and Ty Burrell, plus the African American girl Yara Shahidi, who ends up as a nemesis to Garner's character. M...

Moviehole confirms that previously suggested names like Chuck Norris, John Travolta and Donnie Yen are indeed being mentioned as possibilities, with Yen even receiving an offer But wait, there's more, as those names are just the tip of the iceberg because the folks at Nu Image, as well as director Simon West and star Sylvester Stallone, have reportedly drafted a pre...

'Friday Night Lights' & 'Super 8' Star Kyle Chandler Joins Ben Affleck's 'Argo'

Kyle Chandler is one of those actors who is a journeyman, logging time on a number of television shows -- "Homefront" and "Early Edition" among them -- and appearing in small roles in a number of films before finally landing what would be his star-making turn in "Friday Night Lights." The critically acclaimed show struggled for survival throughout its five seasons, but it was a launchpad for folks like Taylor Kitsch, Adrianne Palicki and Minka Kelly and for Chandler as well, it put him firmly on the radar thanks to his turn as Eric Taylor. J.J. Abrams made a great choice in slotting him in "Super 8" and now Chandler will see his stock rise wi...

Zoe Saldana Is Half-Human, Half-Angel In Supernatural Thriller 'Dominion'

We'll say this about Zoe Saldana -- she is just not getting the kinds of pictures she deserves. She's the rare breed of actress who can more than handle her own in genre fare and she's been underserved for the most part, with thankless roles in "The Losers," "Takers" and this weekend's "Colombiana."...
