    "Last Days of Left Eye" and "Fay Grim" Bookend 31st Atlanta Film Fest

    Oscar nominated director Lauren Lazin's ("Tupac Resurrection") "Last Days of Left Eye" will open the 31st Atlanta Film Festival on Thursday, April 19. The film centers on Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, the hip hop voice of TLC, the best-selling female R&B group of all time. On March 30, 2002, she decided to document her life, filing a mysterious spiritual retreat deep in the jungles of Honduras. On April 25, she died in a tragic accident, leaving behind her unedited tapes, which Lazin edited. Hal Hartley's Toronto and Sundance action/thriller "Fay Grim" will close the festival April 28.     Academy and UCLA to Screen "Rize" and "Favela Rising" in Doc Series

    Two documentary features, "Rize" and "Favela Rising," will be screened on Wednesday, May 9, as the next installment in the 2006-2007 "Contemporary Documentaries" series, presented by the Academy Foundation of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the UCLA Film & Television Archive. The screenings will begin at 7 p.m. at the Academy's Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood. Admission is free.     Films from Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore will make their international premieres at the 20th Singapore International Film Festival, which opens on Wednesday.
