"Super 8" Wins the Super Bowl Movie Marketing Game

Judging by hot searches and polls and general film bloggery, J.J. Abrams' "Super 8" is the most anticipated, or at least the most buzzing, movie advertised during the Super Bowl yesterday. Part of this likely has to do with its secrecy. And it seemed to come out of nowhere for most folk. Even those who follow movie sites and news hadn't yet seen so much footage from the sci-fi film, and the rest of America probably hadn't even heard of it until the spot aired during the game. Unlike "Captain America," "Thor," "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" and "Transformers 3," this is not an already anticipated adaptation or sequel. And unlike...

Melissa Leo Goes for Her Oscar and Future

Melissa Leo wants to make sure that this year her Oscar campaign ends with a win. It also looks like she wants to get another gig. This woman has some serious guts to put herself out there with these "consider Melissa Leo" ads which she self financed according to Deadline.

    Hey Melissa Leo...

These self-financed For Your Consideration ads really creep me out. With the SAG and Globe, you already had a good thing going heading into Oscar. Maybe it's just me, but this makes you come across a bit, I don't know, desperate and crazy? I mean, these look like horribly tacky ads for faux fur. An...

Mychael Danna Scoring 'Moneyball' & 'Life Of Pi'

Not every movie can star Robert Downey Jr or Johnny Depp; the most in-demand talents only have a certain amount of time, and sometimes you just have to go with a Channing Tatum or Jonathan Rhys-Meyers. And the same thing is true across all aspects of film production; Roger Deakins can't lens every f...

Plot Details Emerge As J.J. Abrams Talks 'Super 8'

Maybe it's just because virtually every other Super Bowl trailer felt like being headbutted by an exploding Playstation in a candy store, but the first proper look at J.J. Abrams' top-secret "Super 8" seemed to stand head and shoulders above the rest; sure, it's got its fair share of things blowing up too, but it teased an actual movie, not just a bloated CGI-fest. Word's been typically quiet from the secretive hyphenate's latest project since the surprise announcement teaser last summer, but Abrams broke cover as the TV spot was aired to talk to Hero Complex, and a few more concrete details have emerged, both about the plot, and what the wri...
