>> Ban Lifted On Wong Kar-wai Film

South Korea has lifted the ban on the award-winning Wong Kar-wai film, "Happy Together", a representative of Fortissimo Film Sales confirmed for indieWIRE. The film, which depicts a homosexual relationship between two men (played by Leslie Cheung and Tony Leung) will open in Korea on August 22.

As reported in indieWIRE last fall, government authorities banned the movie stating that it "is not relevant to the emotional life of the Korean people." The film, which screened as the closing night movie at the Singapore International Film Festival this Spring remains banned from theatrical release in Singapore.

>> "Brother's Keeper" Subject Delbert Ward Dies

Delbert Ward, subject of Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky's award-winning 1992 documentary film "Brother's Keeper", died last week at the age of 67. He had been hospitalized for a week due to illness prior to passing on Thursday afternoon. Ward, who was accused and ultimately acquitted of killing his brother William, is survived by his older brothers Lyman and Roscoe.

According to a statement released by Berlinger and Sinfsky, donations are being accepted to help cover the cost's of Delbert Ward's burial, in care of: Harry Thurston, Rd. 1 Box 51 Stockbridge Falls Road, Munnsville, NY 13409. Services are scheduled for today at the Barker Burgess Funeral Home in Morrisville, NY.

>> Newman Named to Head Film/Video Arts

Eileen Newman has been named the Executive Director of the New York City's media arts center, Film/Video Arts, Inc. A member of boards including New York Women in Film and Television and the Media Center for Children and Educators for Social Responsibility, Newman comes to the job with 20 years of experience in film, TV and media education. In a prepared statement, Newman said, "As one of so many media arts organizations, at the end of the Nineties, we are envisioning our role in the years ahead, planning for the challenges of new technologies, while at the same time striving to retain support for those beginning their exploration of the power of the image.
