Not a good satisfying film   POSTED Wed Jan 5 [5:58 PM] BY Registered indieWIRE Member

"Rosenstrasse" didn't do "well" b/c it was a boring film, not entirely b/c it was a holocaust film. I'm surprised it even made that much $.

regarding the "Holocaust diet"   POSTED Wed Jan 5 [2:43 PM] BY Registered indieWIRE Member

>>>Gottlieb's disappointment in '04 was the performance of the Samuel Goldwyn release, "Rosenstrasse." It made a bit more than $727,000. Gottlieb said that a challenge was getting press to cover the movie. "A number of editors believe that the Holocaust is no longer newsworthy. I heard reporters tell me that their papers were on a 'Holocaust diet'. This attitude seemed to infect some critics as well. Shame on all of you!"<<<

Oh really? Is it possible that stories, both fictional and non-fictional, about a very important yet incredibly sad moment of the 20th Century...can at one point be an oversaturation?
Like, after "Hotel Rwanda", if there were to be a dozen films within the next five years about that horrible chapter in recent history...would it be possible that the film audience and readers at home might say "I think I'll take a break from that at this moment"? There's nothing shameful about it.

It's possible that "Rosenstrasse" is a film that every person on Earth should watch. And aside from it being about an important true moment of the 20th Century...maybe its just a damn good film. But I don't know. I haven't seen it yet. Should I be therefore shamed? Nope. I should be empathized about looking for fresher subjects in my current cinematic diet. There's nothing shameful in that.
