Berlinale Adds Doc To Generation Section
Thirteen films have already been selected to participate in the "Generation" section of the 2009 Berlinale - seven in "Kplus" and six in "14plus." A record number of more than 1000 films have been submitted this year. For the first time, Generation will screen a documentary for its younger audiences in the Kplus competition. Mexican director Eugenio Polgovsky's "Los herederos" explores how "hard work defines the lives and existence of children and their families." Two Texas critics' groups announced their annual awards, with the Dallas-Fort Worth Critics' Association giving best picture to Danny Boyle's "Slumdog Millionaire" and the Houston Film Critics' Association feting David Fincher's "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." 49 Songs Eligible For Oscar
Forty-nine songs from eligible feature films are contending for nominations in the Original Song category for the 81st Academy Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today. The original songs, along with the motion picture in which each song is featured, are listed here. They include 11 songs from "High School Musical 3" (or over a fifth of the contenders). Internet-based distributor IndiePix has partnered with U.K. film distributor Dogwoof in a bid to extend each company's reach in the other's respective territories. Santa Barbara Names Virtuosos Award Recipients

Film Department To Remake "Man"
The Film Department has set Peter Chelsom ("Shall We Dance") to direct a remake of the Italian film "The Perfect Man" with Colleen McGuinness adapting the screenplay, and Di Novi Pictures producing. The remake is based on "L'Uomo Perfetto," and centers on three young adults - two women and a man - who have been friends since childhood.
