Amy Taubin

Film Comment

Amy Taubin is a contributing editor for Film Comment and Sight and Sound magazines and a frequent contributor to Art Forum. The author of a book on Martin Scorsese’s “Taxi Driver” (in the British Film Institute’s Classic Films series,) she served from 1987 to 2001 as a film and television critic for the Village Voice where she originated an influential column on independent film titled “Art and Industry.” From 1983 to 1987, she was the curator of video and film at The Kitchen, NYC. Before becoming a writer, she was an actress, performing leading roles in Broadway and off-Broadway productions. She has also appeared in avant-garde films by Jonas Mekas, Andy Warhol, and Michael Snow. Her own film, “In the Bag” (1981) is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. She is the recipient of an “Art Historian/Teacher award (2004) from the School of Visual Arts where she teaches and the Logos-Siegfried Kracauer Award from Anthology Film Archives. She lives and works in NYC.
