Review: Steven Spielberg's 'The Adventures Of Tintin' Is A Gloriously Enjoyable Mo-Cap Marvel

Across his 40 year career as Hollywood's most beloved filmmaker, Steven Spielberg has tried his hand at many different things -- the blockbuster thrill ride, the family film, the comedy, the war film, hardcore science-fiction, serious dramas and whatever it was that "The Terminal" was, a diverse range of pictures united by that certain Spielberg je-ne-sais-quoi. But there's something he's never tackled directly himself; the animated film. Sure, he's produced TV cartoons like "Animaniacs," and even the occasional big-screen one, like "An American Tail" and "We're Back," but for the most part, the Bearded One has always preferred live action to...

'Attack the Block' Director Joe Cornish Says He Declined 'Die Hard 5' Because It Was Too Big A Step

Compares 'Die Hard With A Vengeance' With 'Slumdog Millionaire'; Gives A Small 'Ant-Man' Update (Sort Of)We got to sit down this afternoon at the New York Comic Con with Joe Cornish, who made one of our very favorite movies of the year, the alien invasion romp "Attack the Block." There will be more from our interview in the next few days, but while we were chatting with him we had to ask if the recent rumors were true – that he was shortlisted to direct Fox's next "Die Hard" entry, the hilariously titled "Good Day to Die Hard." Our interest was further piqued after Nicholas Winding Refn, who was also supposedly up for the job, told us that he...

Too Much Madness To Explain In One Text: On The U.K. Riots And 'Attack The Block'

Joe Cornish's directorial debut "Attack the Block" has now been in U.S. theaters for about 10 days, having been rolling out in its native U.K. and elsewhere since May. We're sure you're fed up of the hype at this point, but it's a very, very good film: a nifty, witty, extremely well-executed little ...

Joe Cornish, Justin Lin & Nicolas Winding Refn Join John Moore On Shortlist For 'Die Hard 5'

Over the weekend, word cropped up that Noam Murro, previously attached to direct the forever gestating "Die Hard 5" had left the project to focus on "300: Battle Of Artemisia" with John Moore (“Behind Enemy Lines,” “Max Payne”) as a contender to take his place. Well, he's going to be facing some sti...

Comic-Con '11: John Boyega Says His Performance In 'Attack The Block' Was Influenced By 'The Wire'

Edgar Wright Says 'Ant-Man' Script Was Handed In This Week & That He & Simon Pegg Will Start Writing Third 'Cornetto' Film Next MonthBelieve, bruv. Riding a massive wave of hype since its world premiere at SXSW in March, Joe Cornish's debut "Attack the Block" has been championed by the geek set and with good reason. Compact, surprisingly complex and just flat out entertaining, the film offers a great twist on the alien invasion movie, placing the action in a council estate in south London and pitting a group of young teens against the vicious invading creatures who are black as night and sport an impressive array of glow in the dark teeth. Mi...

Summer Just Got A Whole Lot Better: 'Attack The Block' Begins Rollout In Theaters July 29th

About six weeks in, and the report card for Summer 2011 isn't doing too badly: one instant near-classic in Paul Feig's "Bridesmaids," J.J. Abrams' mostly well-received "Super 8," a thoroughly decent animated sequel in "Kung-Fu Panda 2," two superhero entries that landed somewhere between better than expected ("Thor") and much better than expected ("X-Men: First Class") and a beguiling new Terrence Malick picture, plus a pair of excellent indies in the shape of "Beginners" and "Submarine." Sure there have been stinkers, like "The Hangover Part II" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," but overall the success rate is much higher t...

Watch: Jamie Bell IS Tilda Swinton In First Trailer For 'The Adventures Of Tintin'

One of the biggest question marks of the year has been Steven Spielberg's "The Adventures of Tintin." The director's coming off the worst film of his career, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," and tackling a comic book that few in the U.S. have heard of, in the performance capture...

Nifty Teaser Posters Debut For Steven Spielberg & Peter Jackson's 'The Adventures Of Tintin'

First Trailer To Arrive Tomorrow MorningFor one of the most eagerly anticipated films of the year, at least everywhere except the U.S, word's been strangely quiet on "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn." Uniting blockbuster giants Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson for the first time (the former's directing, the latter producing), on an adaptation of the massively successful graphic novel series about a Belgian boy detective, his dog Snowy, his best friend, a drunken sea captain, and the adventures they go on, we had a glimpse of a handful of images before Christmas, but little since then. We guess because the film's being re...

2 New Clips From SXSW Alien Invasion Hit 'Attack The Block' Debut

It's been about three weeks since Joe Cornish's alien invasion flick "Attack The Block" debuted at SXSW to rapturous reviews (including our own) and the film is still without a U.S. distribution deal. The film screened last week in L.A. to similarly positive notices, possibly hoping to gain some mor...
