New Images From Madonna's 'W.E.' Starring Abbie Cornish & Oscar Isaac

Madonna's latest effort behind the camera hasn't exactly been the easiest of affairs. It was widely reviled after its premiere at the Venice Film Festival in August where our own reviewer called it "a royal disaster." Last month word cropped up that Harvey Weinstein was sending Madonna back to the editing bay to trim ten minutes off the movie before its release later this year. Then when she recently took the movie to the BFI London Film Festival, she was roundly booed by by autograph hounds, but it was misreported as jeers coming from fans who felt she wasn't spending enough time with them. Either way, it's all about the work right? And with...

Will Madonna's 'W.E.' Get A 10 Minute Trim Before Its December Release Later This Year?

Well, TIFF is now over and Toronto is getting back to normal and for Madonna, who has journeyed to Italy and Canada with her sophomore directorial effort "W.E.," she's likely glad to have a moment to breathe and get out of the spotlight. To put it kindly, the reception to the film has been chilly. Our man in Venice called the film "a royal disaster" while others hoping to find something positive in the film have noted it's beautiful set and costume design, solid score by Abel Korzeniowski, with some much more optimistic folks saying it could possibly be an Oscar contender in those former categories. The Weinstein Company, who have set the fil...

Watch: First Footage From Madonna's Venice Flop 'W.E.'

The fall festival season had its first major league flop as Madonna's sophomore directorial effort "W.E." was roundly crucified and/or dismissed as an opulent folly after its premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Our own Oliver Lyttelton gave the film an F, saying that "despite a couple of solid performances, the film can’t be redeemed," pointing to a litany of gaffes from clumsy editing and shot blocking to the script itself, which offers very little reason to be providing two parallel storylines that seemingly have little to connect them. Naturally, the failure has grown curiosity about the film, and two clips have now landed online that gi...

    Venice '11 Review: Madonna's 'W.E.' Is A Royal Disaster

Just as news of an actor excitedly announcing that they've got a definitely-not-a-vanity-project album on the way is generally greeted with a reaction somewhere between mockery and outright terror, news of a musician moving into the movies is rarely a good thing. But all in all, pop megastar Madonna...

The Weinstein Company Picks Up Madonna's 'W.E.,' Official Synopsis Revealed

We'll give it up to Madge. She's certainly ambitious. After whiffing pretty hard on her directorial debut "Filth & Wisdom" she raised the stakes for her sophomore effort, the dual narrative "W.E." and now she's got some major players to help get it out there.
